Scholarship
BAEOP Student Scholarship Recipient for 2008
Kyle Burke
I
am a freshman at the University of Washington and my plans are to
major in International Business. This past summer I worked for Bellevue
School District and I am now working at The North Face Store in
University Village. The money I have earned at these jobs, along
with the BAEOP Scholarship, will help pay my tuition, room and board.
I am very appreciative of the scholarship from BAEOP and wish to
thank the members who helped make it possible.
My classes are great and I’m adapting to the many
changes in my life: being away from home, sharing a room, missing
my family and friends, college freedom, no car, walking, riding
buses, college food, laundry, no money, but I love it!
Christine McDonald
While
attending Issaquah High School, I also participated in the Running
Start Program at BCC and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. I am working
toward a degree in music and plan to transfer to a music school
where I will complete my education.
I currently have my own business, teaching piano
classes to elementary age students. This will provide financial
assistance while I complete my education and will build upon my
teaching skills for the future.
I will soon be ready to get my private pilot license. My dream is
to fly needy children from small Alaskan villages to summer camp
in Kako, where I served as a camp counselor last summer.
I enjoy working with youth, like my mother Ortansa
McDonald, who is a career specialist for Sammamish HS.
My desire to work hard and help other people has
been instrumental in my success to date and I am sure that it will
continue to be of benefit as I complete my education and pursue
my career in music.

Thank you so much for the scholarship you have
provided me with for my freshman year of college. Since I currently
have four, soon to be five other family members enrolled in college,
it would be difficult to remain in school without scholarships like
the one I received from BAEOP.
I am thoroughly enjoying my college experience
at Western. It is a great school, focused primarily on bettering
its student's lives. Thank you for being part of the funds that
have allowed me to attend this University.

for 2007
Brent Sandona
Brent tells us that he is a student who loves his
classes and it certainly shows in his 4.0 GPA from 7th through
12th grade.
He volunteers at the Puget Sound Blood Bank and
is a member of the National Honor Society. He has enjoyed being
a mentor and tutor, so
much that it is no surprise that he one day would
like to become a teacher.
From an early age Brent was a performer and has starred
in a number of productions from Brighton Beach Memoirs to Romeo and
Juliet. He has also directed several plays and is branching out into
film. Brent has chosen to attend the University of Washington and
is considering a major in computer science, bio-medical engineering,
math or physics, with a possible minor in film. He is excited about
attending college and exploring his many interests.
Brent has shared that he is “positively delighted” about
being selected to receive a BAEOP Scholarship.

Paul Sangalang
Paul would like to thank
BAEOP for helping him continue on his path of higher education. These
scholarships
mean a lot, not only financially, but also
in motivating him to work hard and put
this award to good use. He is currently attending
Washington State University and is a member
of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He enjoys his
classes and school and plans to receive a degree
in both International Business and Spanish.
He would like to thank BAEOP for their generosity
and would like to assure us that our investment
in his education will be put to good use.

BAEOP Student Scholarship Recipient for 2006
Wendy-Jean Fischer and committee members Christina Large and Paula Jo Brave
were responsible for evaluating the applications received for the
2006 BAEOP Scholarship. They were very impressed with the four applications
received and found each of them to be very deserving of the scholarship.
After much deliberation, they were able to narrow it down to only
one.
Christina Lo
Christina Lo, daughter of Ivy Lo (BSD Accounting Department),
was selected as the BAEOP Scholarship winner for 2006. Christina attends
Bellevue High School, where she has been an honor roll student since
2002, lieutenant captain of the drill team since 2003 and newsletter
editor for the school newspaper since 2004. Christina has served as
a volunteer at the Seattle Chinese School and was one of the cofounder
of the S.T.A.R.S. mentoring program. She has been accepted by two
schools in California, but has not yet decided which one she will
be attending next fall. Her plans are to major in business and continue
onto graduate school.
BAEOP has forwarded Christina's application to NAEOP
to be considered for the Affiliate Sponsored Student Scholarship competition
for 2006.
BAEOP Student Scholarship Recipient for 2005
Andy Kreek
Andy Kreek, a student at Sammamish High School, was
the BAEOP student scholarship winner for 2005. His application was
one of eight received and evaluated by the Scholarship Committee,
headed by Christina Kwong with members Paula Jo Brave, Maribel Estrada
and Wendy Fischer assisting. They were impressed by all of the candidates
and devoted many hours to come to the difficult decision of choosing
only one.
Andy wrote the following to express his gratitude to
the members of BAEOP. "Thank you for awarding me the BAEOP scholarship. I am honored by your investment
in my education. In a few weeks I will graduate from Sammamish High
School. For the last two years, I have also been participating in
the Running Start program and I will graduate with an Associate of
Arts Degree from Bellevue Community College. In the fall I will be
attending the University of Chicago, where I plan to major in mathematics.
I also intend to continue my pursuit of vocal performance and swimming.
During the summer, I will be working for my second year as a lifeguard
at City of Bellevue beaches."
